Hitters are told to go the other way all of the time. If his approach did change then it was a matter of him figuring out he could not snap through like he could with minor league pitching.Timnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2893512317902577458.post-84694238551250368932015-01-12T09:52:59.792-05:002015-01-12T09:52:59.792-05:00I'm surprised no one has mentioned that the O&...I'm surprised no one has mentioned that the O's changed hitting coaches after this year. I know, I know it was for personal reasons not performance. Still I'm left wondering if Schoop's poor approach had anything to do with it? To me a hitting coach shows his real value with players like Schoop not guys like Cruz. I know Presley was given a lot of credit for Davis' production but then Davis crashes back to earth last year. Not to mention the O's aren't known for hitting for average nor taking a lot of walks. I know they live and die by the long ball but don't we need players on base for those long balls?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2893512317902577458.post-54632229363597115672015-01-12T08:23:05.924-05:002015-01-12T08:23:05.924-05:00I think Schoop really could have benefited from mo...I think Schoop really could have benefited from more time at AAA. I was very surprised he broke spring training with the team. Interested to see what kind of steps forward he can make this season. Still hopeful that he can develop into a very decent 2B. It was a change that that really confused me because it is an obvious strategy that everyone has to do if you want to succeed.

I couldn't understand why for nearly 600 ABs during the regular season we had to watch him do the same stupid strategy over and over again.

I get that he didn't really spend much time in the minors. In fact that's exactly where he belonged - at AA to figure out how to hit. I fear he may never do that in the big leagues. He may lose confidence in himself.Dave from LAnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2893512317902577458.post-64643340953417356832015-01-11T13:41:40.153-05:002015-01-11T13:41:40.153-05:00We have to be careful about focusing on homeruns. ...We have to be careful about focusing on homeruns. J P Arencibia has hit 20 homers multiple times and that is about what JS looked like last year. Not looking for that kind of isolated power.

In fairness, JS belonged in Triple A most of the year. I wouldn't mind if he started the year in Triple A but not sure we have the options available for that other then bad ones as the team is currently configured. Didn't feel JS "earned his way" to the MLB roster and some of that falls on DD for not having another option available. You cant rush every guy to the majors.

They got lucky with MM and they rushed DB in my opinion (not blaming his injury on this). Just think they moved him to fast.

Again, the window is starting to close on this team as configured (Chen, Wieters, Davis probably year away from gone) yet the O's seem content to be good but not better. Not impressed by the "patch job" that DD seems content to use or ordered to use from above.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2893512317902577458.post-55506289689424967092015-01-10T20:21:15.770-05:002015-01-10T20:21:15.770-05:00Biggio hit .211 when he was 22. Jones is a much better hitter than Schoop right now though, which allows him to still be productive, despite the low walk rate.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05119567934749982333noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2893512317902577458.post-18522964865739349792015-01-10T08:12:10.453-05:002015-01-10T08:12:10.453-05:00Do you see alot of Adam Jones from a few years ago...Do you see alot of Adam Jones from a few years ago in schoop especially not laying off outside breaking balls?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
