What I like about versatility (did you read my roundup last year?) is that it let's you have more opportunity to fill in players who shine or can be traded for. In other words, if you have a guy who can left and right field well it means if you have a breakoUT left fielder you are cool or if you go into the market you will have more options.

This is not a very shiny plan, but it looks good.Jon Shepherdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03521809778977098687noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2893512317902577458.post-45623961817877479162016-10-27T12:57:30.937-04:002016-10-27T12:57:30.937-04:00No moew Reimold, that ship has already sailed too ...No moew Reimold, that ship has already sailed too many times!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2893512317902577458.post-81097929550416610112016-10-27T12:21:49.517-04:002016-10-27T12:21:49.517-04:00Liked this.

No one is going to take all his contract( stupid contract decisions bite you at least twice) but multiple teams would certainly be willing to take a portion of it-say, 6 million(Orioles pay the remaining 5)on a change-of-scenery gamble.
Then keep Worley for 3.3 million, which is a net saving of 3+ million and Worley is still a serviceable pitcher(or you could keep Worley intending to trade him as spring training progresses when teams get desperate for a usable #5)
If Wieters accepts the QO, you're not risking 17 mill, but only the cost until the trade deadline, when he can be traded.
I realize the risk, but I do think the QO to Wieters is justified.
The Orioles re-signed Chris Dickerson to a minor league contract. Is he a viable OF option?
Finally, trading Britton absolutely has to happen. He is the best reliever available and would bring back real players and not just prospects, though he'd certainly bring prospects as well.Pipnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2893512317902577458.post-52938236465470287202016-10-27T11:08:48.125-04:002016-10-27T11:08:48.125-04:00Agree that that's the issue Matt. The last time they were in this situation was with Jeremy Guthrie, and they cut his salary by the maximum to save $120k. Don't be surprised if they do that to Bundy to save a few hundred thousand dollars.

Does Jimenez's 2015 give you pause about your plan? Jimenez had a 7.38 ERA in the first half but a 2.82 ERA in the second half. If you gave up on Jimenez after his first 17 starts, you'd miss his 8 good ones. Gallardo also improved in the second half. Can you just dump them with nobody available to take their place?

That's the problem with starting pitching -- so much of it is just random. I just don't know if he's physically ready to handle the workload for a full year after all those injuries, and I'm not sure he ever will be, so that was the basis of that decision. If you believe that Bundy has only limited bullets left in his right arm and they might as well use them while they can, I can't really blame you.

In my view, Gallardo and Jimenez will not reach 20-25 starts unless they pitch well. Since both are in the last year of their contract (meaning releasing them for poor performance is more likely), I can't imagine either having a terribly long leash (I seriously considered releasing one or both of them just to save $500K - $1 million). It's the reason I advocated for signing a Travis Wood or Jesse Chavez if there was additional money, which provides another pitcher who can start in the bullpen but be another rotation option if needed. In my opinion, you role them out there in the beginning of the season and either get some value from them or pull the plug early. I wish Buck would have played Kim more. Hard to tell if he can handle a full-time role. Buck did the same thing with Ryan Adams. Who if I recall correctly got hate for his defense, but made a diving play in the 8th to save a run. This play, allowed Andino to even get to the plate that night.

I agree 100% with trading Britton and you might be able to fortify that right-field spot with an addition from this trade.

Starting Bundy in the pen is not something I would be willing to do. There is no world where Gallardo/Miley/Jimenez would get a start over Bundy. With our offense taking a hit, we cannot afford another 20-25 starts from the Gallardo/Jimenez combo.
