We got 3 good years from him, very lucky! 5.1 mill?!? Should have been non-tendered to begin with. Thanks, and good luck with the White Sox!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2893512317902577458.post-30302424794794244472016-03-31T14:46:20.040-04:002016-03-31T14:46:20.040-04:00Yeah. They gambled that he could rebound from 2015, but his spring training play (and velo, mainly) convinced them that he wouldn't.Ryan Romanohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17831177754232641404noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2893512317902577458.post-5493113412979920632016-03-31T13:14:21.262-04:002016-03-31T13:14:21.262-04:00It is indeed sad, but Gonzo leaves with career ear...It is indeed sad, but Gonzo leaves with career earnings of several million dollars, a pension and free health insurance forever, so shed no tears.
Wilson and Wright are up now because Dan gave Zack Davies to the Brewers for two awful months of Parra.
(Davies was sent to AAA, but with the assurance that he's first up when the need arises. And he had a very good spring.)
And Dan makes trades like that all the time.
For THAT, we should shed many tears.
Meanwhile, Jon/Ryan, how is the waiver wire/opt-out/release department looking?
Lots of arms being dumped, none of interest to a GOOD team, but perhaps of more than passing interest to us.
Anything that has caught your eye in the last 24 hours or so?
Thanks!Pipnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2893512317902577458.post-32508148182638862552016-03-31T11:33:11.313-04:002016-03-31T11:33:11.313-04:00I imagine MiGo was a bet and it did not work out.I imagine MiGo was a bet and it did not work out.Jon Shepherdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03521809778977098687noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2893512317902577458.post-92081874088548422542016-03-31T11:10:16.031-04:002016-03-31T11:10:16.031-04:00Based upon performance, it's hard to believe t...Based upon performance, it's hard to believe that the $5M couldn't be better spent elsewhere. If they had released him before arb then there would have been more options still left on the market to consider. Now, Miguel gets $2M anyway and there are few options for an upgrade.

That being said, it's hard to believe that Wilson/Wright/Worley would not represent an upgrade that's cheaper. I am absolutely convinced that Wilson, in particular, will be a worthy SP. No one likes his low K totals but his command and consistency will play well. He looks a helluva lot better than Jimenez/Gallardo this spring.Rogernoreply@blogger.com
