His head got messed with in August of 2013 and he lost his release point in Arizona. From what I've been seeing, he never got either back together. I was shocked that the Orioles got anything in return for him in a trade. Granted they ended up using Weeks to get Johnson who helped them to the ALCS.

Johnson was great at his peak, but he isn't worth much beyond a minors deal for the Orioles. I get the impression that regular work really sharpens him or, maybe, a slightly tired arm gives him more sink. He was good with the Braves because they didn't have anyone else and stuck with him. He had a couple of early rough outings and when he settled in was outstanding. He was a great set-up guy for Grilli and closed when Grilli went down. He may be a perfect replacement for O'Day but you'd have to sweat out each appearance. He will be cheap with lots of upside.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2893512317902577458.post-75842351826685158102015-11-18T13:46:36.520-05:002015-11-18T13:46:36.520-05:00I would be in favor of the Orioles signing him to ...I would be in favor of the Orioles signing him to a minor league deal, put him with Grif and see if he can still be an effective starter. Nolan Reimold already occupies Nate's roster spot (sage wise elder; ties to the storied past; one less shot at the magic...). I'd rather see Henry U. or Alvarez or Borbon or someone like that. Someone with more of a longer-range upside, even if from another organization. Give "Boys of Summer" a spin - even the version by The Ataris if you must.Boss61https://www.blogger.com/profile/01045206084120458063noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2893512317902577458.post-17518052023728177652015-11-18T13:22:46.747-05:002015-11-18T13:22:46.747-05:00I agree with Boss, certainly, but I'm wonderin...I agree with Boss, certainly, but I'm wondering about Nate Mclouth. He had a dreadful two year injury stint with the Nationals and is now a FA. He's 34, I think, but was an excellent LF who could run and hit for average if not power.
I don't know the nature of his injury, but he could be had for a flyer, and there are lots worse possibilities.Philipnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2893512317902577458.post-76654085988023078122015-11-18T13:08:22.141-05:002015-11-18T13:08:22.141-05:00He's effectively done, as are we. He was an effective and highly sought major league pitcher for a few years.

No more. As Don Henley famously said "...Don't look back.
