The team with the best in league out of division winning percentage hosts the games. worst two have a play in the afternoon then an evening game against the host team.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2893512317902577458.post-4988870717769154222014-11-01T17:36:26.262-04:002014-11-01T17:36:26.262-04:00John, I'd prefer a WC series of three games: a...John, I'd prefer a WC series of three games: a single and a doubleheader. That way, October wouldn't be any longer, and the WC game wouldn't be so much of a coin flip.Philipnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2893512317902577458.post-48227586813885845022014-11-01T13:24:37.763-04:002014-11-01T13:24:37.763-04:00The Showalter comment is just another example of w...The Showalter comment is just another example of why I love this guy. He is dead-on right. There is way too much down time in the playoffs, and that down-time favors loading up with frontline starters and hitters and favors wild card teams who had a hard ride into the postseason. Consecutive game nights would test depth--a critical part of baseball strategy--and they could extend the wild card round to seven games and make more money. But he does seem to get in swing modes where you believe he'll swing at any pitch, no matter the location.

From 2010-2012, pitchers were steadily throwing him more pitches low and away. In 2012, more than 12% of pitches thrown to him were low and away (the largest number of his career). Yet, that's when he also had the best offensive season of his career. Afterwards, pitchers went back to throwing him pitches outside the zone between 9-10% of the time in 2013 and 2014. That's still pretty high.

This is just who Jones is. He's very good now-- it's possible he could be great if he kept his swings more toward balls he can actually hit.

I still love him for the player that he is, and am very happy he's on the team (I often wear his jersey), but I dream of more.

For what it's worth, I'm often left wondering why anyone ever throws him anything over the plate.Bennoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2893512317902577458.post-21078124009263140032014-10-30T12:46:41.915-04:002014-10-30T12:46:41.915-04:00Thanks for the comment. So, asking an established player to re-invent himself as a hitter isn't a sound strategy.

Accept Adam as he is - which is a pretty decent CF that most teams would envy. If you want a high-obp player, draft them, trade for them, or sign them as FA. It is useless to force a square peg in a round hole. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
